BLS Cultural Heritage

About this site

There's a lot we don't know about each other, despite walking in the same halls every school day.

Learning about each other's intangible cultural heritage* can help unite us.

This database invites Boston Latin School students and faculty to share a part of their culture they deeply value. There are no categories or differentiations between type of culture or origin. This collection of cultural practices creates a beautiful mosaic, a time capsule of the passions of the students and faculty at Boston Latin School during the 2025-2026 year.

Please explore this database to learn more about your peers' culture. In such times of war, genocide, conflict, and climate change, it is imperative that we keep alive the living memory of a culture that, if faced with the threat of extinction, survives simply because you were curious!

*UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Institution defined "intangible cultural heritage" at its 2003 convention as the "the practices, representations, expressions, knowledge, skills [...] that communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage" (UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, 2003:Article 2.1)
